The Car: S998 VAG/MAT Collaboration Audi RS4
Sales Thread:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/2759889.aspxFirst Impressions: A very nice simple paint once again adorns a VAG car, this one looked so good from a side view, but so simple. I am a little unsure about the bonnet design though, it just doesn't seem to work with the nice side view. The tune makes for a lively Audi though, and works well on all of the pro series race tracks.
On The Tracks: Mugello being our first time out together I was finding out about the car through all 5 laps. In the end I managed a respectable 1:45.856 with the RS4 with plenty of room for improvement but only 0.5 off my PB time.
Silverstone International saw me fitting in with the car a little better, and the laptimes were as good as I do in almost any S class car, i.e. not great but ok. The Audi felt good in all the turns leading to a best lap of 1:16.522 which is getting close to my PB once again.
Suzuka should have been a lot better, but I just couldn't get it all to come together for one good lap. A 1:57.004 was the fastest but it should have got at least into the 1:56's. If I'd put all the best bits of each lap together it would have been well into that ballpark though.
Maple Valley wasn't a natural fit for the Audi which saw me pilot it to a way off pace best lap of 1:24.193. I'm sure it can be made to get around quicker, I just couldn't do it in the allotted laps.
Finally Sebring Short was the track, and this car is reputedly very good on the full circuit. I can well believe it too, as the 1:07.290 laptime was very close to my PB, and that was with some mistakes on every lap.
The Verdict: The simple design down the sides looks fantastic, somehow making the RS4 look brilliant without too much going on. It falls apart a little with the bonnet design, which is also nice but just didn't fit in with the rest of the car in my opinion. It would work well on another car with a similar design to the bonnet all over, this Audi needed to be kept simple. The actual tune though is excellent, working well on most tracks with plenty of grip and speed. My times never do justice to a good car in S class, but taken in context with my actual best times this RS4 scores very well, and will do better in the hands of S class junkies. Try it around the Sebrings to really feel the best of it though, it was very good when I put it around Sebring Short. The only thing I found from the drivers point of view was that the rear could be forced loose, but I put it down to my driving as it handles a little like a rear wheel drive car. Another worthy buy from the VW Audi Group with a tune by MAT.
